Upper designs radiate retro shoe design. Retro design is a shoe style that is reminiscent of past fashion trends. Hence New Balance 410 v7 has a classic or vintage appearance with significant freshness, making it attractive to previous and current generations.
New Balance designed the upper with a mesh material to make it breathable. The mesh is kind of tighter and well streamlined, but the breathability is excellent even on a hot day. It is a quick drying mesh that is held into shape with strong synthetic overlays instead of leather.
The tongue has decent enough padding. It is not plush but has the right balance. The laces are flat and long enough. The designers utilized a composite lacing system comprising flat laces that do not exert pressure on top of the foot and offer personalized fit. That means the padding is right. Overall, the heel collar, tongue and ankle collar are well padded. However, there is room for using thickly padded socks to complement this amount of cushioning.
There is a sense of support in the medial and lateral sides. The toe bumper is strong enough for protecting the toes during running. The toe box is roomy and the mesh is designed in a manner that it doesn’t rub the toes.
The fitting is true-to-size and there is a wider version for a wide footed runner. It is comfortable and can accommodate prescribed inserts. The wide option is an excellent choice if you prefer extra room especially in the toe box. However, the normal size offers a personalized snug-fitting. Overall the upper is super comfortable and stylish.
The only thing wrong about the upper is that while the mesh dries quickly, it is not waterproof. The perforations allow water to get. This issue can be averted by wearing waterproof socks, especially when running or hiking in the woods.
New Balance 410v7 Midsole Design and Performance
The midsole comprises a soft and lightweight EVA foam that offers underfoot comfort. The ground impact absorption and subtle bounce is amazing, thus there are no stresses on the joints when running on trail terrain. Still The EVA foam is not as soft as the Fresh foam or fresh foam x midsole foam but, has a reputation of offering a long-lasting comfort.
The midsole foam is covered with AT Tread outsole rubber that offers versatile traction and assured underfoot protection. The AT outsole rubber is aggressively treaded to provide sufficient grip and traction. It makes me feel confident with each stride. The lugs adapt to on and off road terrains. The lugs utilize the hydrohesion rubber which provides a balance of soft underfoot feel and multi-directional grip. It devours the ground with aggression.
The noticeable change in the midsole is the level of flexibility. The previous version, New Balance 410v6, bends easily. However, this sole unit is robust. The heel is more rigid in the version for handling steep climbing.
How to Use your Pair of New Balance 410v7
I use my pair of New Balance 410v7 mostly for trail running and as a casual wear. This shoe falls in the trail shoe category. It has a lot of grip for handling trail terrain or somewhat technical terrain. It is also versatile enough for cross training. Most importantly, the slick retro design makes New Balance 410v7 a great casual. You can match with shorts or jeans trousers.
