Introduction

Nike consistently stands out among the myriad choices for runners, having built a reputation for reliable, high-quality running gear over the years. The Nike Revolution 7, a budget-friendly shoe is more accommodating, more cushioned at the heel, and  offers a pretty soft ride. A deeper delve into the nitty gritty of the Nike Revolution 7 will reveal just how much quality you can get for a pair that costs at most $70.

Nike Revolution 7 Upper Design and Fitting

The Nike Revolution 7 has a soft double-layer knit upper made of lightweight, breathable fabric that aids in maintaining dryness on the feet even when running in hot weather. Adorning the sides of the shoe is the Nike signature TPU swoosh, also found on the tongue. Slipping into the Revolution 7 for the first time elicited an encapsulating feel while at the same time giving much more room at the toe box for my toes to splay.

The tongue is also gusseted and amply padded, ensuring comfort and a more secure fit.

One essential addition by Nike on the Revolution 7 is puffs at the heel collar for extra comfort and support. After slipping into the Nike Revolution 6 and 7, I could feel how much the puffs made a difference in cushioning my Achilles. Furthermore, the Revolution 7 has a sturdier heel counter, offering sufficient heel lockdown and reducing instances of slippage during my short runs. One thing that was amiss in Revolution 7 was an extra eyelet in the lacing system, which caused some difficulty when running in the shoes because I was unable to tie the runner's knot. All in all, the upper is pretty decent for a budget running shoe.

Nike Revolution 7 Midsole Design and Performance

Much has been said about the midsole of the Revolution 7, and so I put it to the test by logging 100 miles on road and light trails. I was impressed that the EVA-based midsole foam was able to hold up well, giving a much firmer ride than anticipated. The midsole is adequately cushioned at the heel and midfoot section but leaves much to be desired when moving closer to the forefoot. Overall, it is moderately soft and not as bouncy but still gives a generous amount of energy return.  As such, I would recommend this pair for short runs and light treadmill sessions at the gym.

Nike Revolution 7 Toe box

The Nike Revolution 7 features a 10mm heel drop and comes in various sizes and colorways. As a size 11, the men's version fits true to size and is perfectly snug at the midfoot. For runners with wide feet, this should not be a drawback as Nike offers extra wide options. The Revolution 7 is also lightweight, with the women's version weighing 244g (8.6 oz) and the men's version weighing 283g (10 oz).

Nike Revolution 7 Outsole

The outsole of the Nike Revolution 7 is made of rubber lugs designed in a waffle-like pattern to ensure ample grip and traction, whether you are pounding the pavements or moving through rough terrain and wet surfaces. This pattern helps to distribute pressure and absorb impact evenly, reducing the risk of slippage and enhancing the shoe's performance during runs and workout sessions. Additionally, the outsole is lightweight, with the midfoot area composed of exposed foam. This feature helps to shed unnecessary bulk on the shoe. After running 100 miles in them, I can attest to their durability as they showed minimal signs of wear.

Nike Revolution 7 Ride Experince

The Nike Revolution 7 offers a balance of softness and firmness. The fair amount of firmness makes my foot strikes repulsive e, which I preferre for quick workouts and casual runs. However, for my gait and running style, I sometimes feel the need for more cushioning, especially in the midfoot and forefoot areas.

Why You Should Buy

The Nike Revolution 7 is a budget-friendly option perfect for beginners and those with wider feet. It offers a firmer ride that provides solid support. Being aesthetically pleasing, it is perfectly suited for both running and casual wear, ensuring you look good whether you're hitting the track or running errands.

Why You Should Not Buy Nike Revolution 7

The Nike Revolution 7 may not be suitable for midfoot and forefoot strikers seeking ample cushioning, as it is less padded in these areas and tends to offer a firmer feel overall. Additionally, for those who prefer a plush underfoot experience or engage in long-distance running, the shoe's firmer ride might not provide the desired comfort over extended periods.

What to expect from Nike Revolution 7

  • A budget-friendly shoe
  • Comfort
  • Sleek and stylish design
  • A firm ride
  • Accommodating toe box
  • Extra wide sizing options
